If you already use Monday workflows, you’re enjoying the benefits of automations and integrations that transform your productivity. Have you ever wanted to pause between steps in your workflow for a fixed amount of time? Now it’s possible, with the delay block!
You can choose from a wide range of actions once you select a delay block, and set up a flexible schedule that suits you.
What are the benefits of deferring workflows?
Workflow deferral is a great option for business processes managed by large organizations that handle complex workflows, but it’s also an amazing feature for small businesses that use automations and want additional customization. Let’s take a closer look.
Where to access the workflow deferral block
To access the Defer Action block in a workflow, first open the workflow you are working on by clicking the Workflow Center icon in the navigation bar at the top left of your Monday screen. Then open the workflow you want to edit, or create a new workflow by selecting the “Create Workflow” button.
Once you’ve opened your workflow, you can apply delays to any step you want to postpone.
Implementing delays in workflow

Let’s say after creating an item, you want to send an email to the person assigned to the task, but you want to wait a day to make sure all the required information is collected. You can easily do this by clicking on the plus sign icon and selecting “delay” from the drop-down menu as shown below:
Once you’ve chosen your snooze action, you can customize your workflow snooze as you wish. Choose how long you want the snooze to last, from minutes, hours, to days. Then choose when the next action will occur. You can add a snooze action at any stage of your workflow after the initial trigger has been set up.
Finally, it’s time to define the next action in your workflow that will be affected by the delay. That’s it! You’re ready to set up your delays.
