The My Work section is a great way to see everything you and your team need to accomplish in a convenient, easy-to-use interface. It displays all the tasks in your monday.com account that have been assigned to you. You can view all your work in one place and stay up to date on your tasks with “My Work”!

What is “my job”?

The “My Work” section centralizes all of your assigned tasks, so you can see everything in one place . Instead of jumping between boards and dashboards to check what’s happening, My Work centralizes this information for your convenience. You can even customize it to suit your needs!

how does it work

Start using My Work by clicking on the calendar to-do list icon located in your left panel . When you hover over the icon, you will see the word “My Work.”

Here you can track the daily tasks assigned to you from all the boards in your account. This means that in order to see items in “My Work”, it is important that you have a People Column and you are associated with the items you want to see. It is also important to set up a status column in your boards to indicate the progress of that item.

Note: You can also see tasks assigned to anyone else on your account. This is enabled in the personalization settings!

What information can I see?

The items and sub-items in My Work are formatted similarly to how they appear in your boards.

See how “My Work” is structured
  • Item name, sub-items, and updates section
  • Linked board name
  • Group name
  • People column showing you and others assigned to the item
  • Date column
  • Status column
  • Priority column

Your subitems will appear like other items with a few important differences. In the “Board” section, you’ll see “Subitems of…” followed by the name of the board they’re associated with. You can also see the original parent item by clicking the subitem icon next to its name.

Note: There is a limit of 250 boards or 1000 items that can be displayed in My Work, and sub-items are considered part of the original item. You will be notified when you reach the limit.

How do the items appear?

The items are arranged in six sections by date (or without date) and there is a number next to each group indicating the number of items in each section.

See the categories
  • Past Dates – All dates that have passed
  • Today – Today’s date
  • This week – dates for the current week, excluding today’s date
  • Next week – Dates for the coming week
  • Later – dates after next week
  • No date – no date set

Note: Items will appear in the “Past Dates”, “Today”, “This Week”, “Next Week”, and “Later” sections based on the date set in the date column. However, items do not have to have a date column to appear in My Work, and items without a date will appear in the “No Date” section.

Search for items in “My Work”

If you’re a little confused by the variety of items you see in “My Work,” you’re not alone. Some items aren’t always relevant, so we’ve added a search bar to help you easily filter through the items and find what you’re looking for!

Note: For an item to appear in the “My Work” area, The item must have been updated within the last six months. Items not updated within this time frame will not appear.

Hide completed items

While My Work is a great place to see everything in your account that’s assigned to you, you may want to only see tasks that haven’t been completed yet. That’s why we’ve added a “Hide Completed Items” option!

Click the “Customize” button in the top right corner, and check the box for “Hide completed items.” My Work will then filter out all items marked as “Done,” or with any other status label set to Complete in the Status column.

Customize what you see in My Work

From choosing which boards to show to which specific people and columns to display, you can customize your My Work settings to your preferences. To open the customization settings menu, click the Personalization icon and select the boards, columns, and people you want to see.

You can choose which of your assignees you want their items to appear in My Work. Choose yourself or any of the team members or guests on your account!

Note: The boards you hide in My Work are hidden only in this section and not in your entire account.
  • Status and date column

If one of your boards has more than one status column or date column, you can use the drop-down menu to select which one you want to see in My Work for each of your boards. If one of your boards has only one status column or date column, it will be automatically selected by default.

While status labels can be edited from within My Work, because the items in My Work are collected from different boards, the change in status will only apply to the specific item from that connected board, and not to all status columns displayed in My Work.

Please note: My Work uses the selected date columns to arrange your items in chronological order. If the correct date columns are not selected, you may not see your upcoming items in the correct section of My Work.

Note: Viewers can view and customize the information in My Work, but they don’t have editing rights. For more information about user types, check out this article.

“My Work” views

Want to drill down to specific details on your My Work page? There are different view options that can be accessed from the top of your page, by clicking the drop-down arrow next to the search bar. From here, you can choose to view your My Work page by date, status, priority, board, or a single list.

You can also switch to Calendar view by clicking the second tab next to “Table” at the top of your page. Here you can see your items in a calendar view, and edit items from within the calendar by clicking on the item.

Add items directly to My Work

For efficiency and convenience, you can add items from the “My Work” page. To add an item, click the “New Item” button in the upper left corner of the page. From here, you can name your item, choose which board and group to add the item to, and choose the date for the item.

Edit items without leaving My Work

No need to go back and forth between “My Work” and your boards to edit items! You can edit items directly from “My Work” by clicking on any of the sections to make changes or by clicking on the item name to open the item card! You can edit anything directly from the item card, including updates, and the changes will automatically be reflected in the board.
