Meet the Deadline Status! With this feature, you can connect your date or schedule columns with a status column on your board to easily see deadlines, ensuring you and your team stay on track at all times. Read on to learn more. ⬇️

How to turn on Deadline mode

Deadline mode works by connecting a date or schedule column with a status column on your board. So, to enable Deadline mode, make sure you have the following columns on your board:

  • Date or schedule column
  • At least one status column
  • Optional – People column

Then, click the column menu of the date or schedule column you want to set in the deadlines mode and select “Settings” and then “Set as Last Date.”

Next, you’ll see a screen asking you to connect the date or schedule column with a status column and a people column, if you want. You can use the arrow to open a drop-down menu of all the status and people columns on your board to choose from. Once you’ve selected your columns, click “Connect Columns.”

That’s it! You should now see the 2 or 3 columns connected, and icons next to the dates in the Dates column:

For the schedule, you’ll see a series of bars with a start and end date, with the bars filling up like a thermometer as you get closer to the end date. Once the task is set to “done,” the bar will show a check mark on the left and will be completely green.

Setting status labels to “Done”

On each of your boards, you can select the labels that set a status to “Done.” By setting a status label to “Done,” the due date status can show whether an item is completed or not.

To customize this, click the three-dot menu in your status bar, select “Settings,” then “Status Bar Customization.” From there, click the label colors you want to set as “Done.”

Adding time to your appointments

To make your deadlines even more precise, why not add a time to your date column? You can do this from the calendar drop-down menu when you select a date in the date column. Simply click the “Add Time” button and then add the time you want the date to end.

The time will be determined when a task is considered invalid, when the due date mode is enabled in the date column.

My work and deadline status

Our My Work feature takes the due date mode we described above to a whole new level. “My Work” appears in the left panel of your monday.com and helps centralize all of your assigned items across your account in chronological order, so you can make sure you’re on top of all your work.

By adding a People column and assigning people to items on your boards with due status, each assigned user will start seeing items in “My Work,” giving them a summary of what needs to be completed soon. You can learn more about this here.

Due date reminders

Want to make sure you never miss a deadline? With monday.com automations, you can now set reminders for yourself and your team when your deadlines are approaching. To set up this automation, click the three-dot menu to the right of the date column name to open the column menu, then select “Set Due Date Reminders.”
