The differences between board types on monday.com: private, shared, and public

As you build your boards, you’ll notice that we offer three different types of boards: main, shareable, and private. The structure of each of these boards is the same, but what sets them apart is the level of access they offer. Read on to learn about the differences between the board types.

Main Boards

Main boards are visible to anyone who is a team member on your account. A team member can be an admin, member, or viewer. Any main board you create will be accessible to all team members on your account. These boards are available on all of our plans and there is no limit to the number of boards you can create.

Boards are shareable

Shareable boards are used when you want to share a board with people outside your team or company, such as clients, interns, or freelancers. You can invite these people as guests within your account to specific shareable boards. To see how to invite a guest to your shareable board, click here.

When you invite a guest to a shareable board, they will only have access to the specific board they were invited to. Your guests will not have access to any other information within your account. To see what an external guest can do on a shareable board, please see this article.

Additionally, you can also invite your team members to a shareable board whether they are viewers or members. Your team members will only be able to see the shareable boards they have been invited to. Shareable boards are available in Standard, Pro, and Enterprise plans.

Private Boards

Private boards, available in Pro and Enterprise plans, are only visible to the person who created the board and the specific users they invite to join that board. Private boards are intended for internal use only, so we do not offer the ability to invite guests to a private board. Only team members (viewers, friends) can be invited to a private board.

If you have a project you’re not ready to release yet or a board that contains confidential information, private boards can be a great solution for you!
