Do you have a workflow where each new item requires a specific column value? Do you want to reduce the manual work of adding the same value to each new item one by one? With Default Item Value , you can quickly and easily set specific values that will automatically be entered into all new items in your board!
How to set it up
To create a default value for new items on your board, first tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner of your board, “Board Settings,” and then “Item Default Values” as shown below:
From the pop-up screen that opens, you can set which values you want to set as default, and in which specific columns. Simply tap the column fields, select the values you want to set, and tap the blue “Save Changes” button to continue!
In the example above, we set the following default values for all new items created on this board:
- The assignee will be assigned to Noy.
- The “Phase I” column will be labeled “Working on it”
- The “Time Estimate” column will show 3 days.
These values will now apply to the column(s) you specified every time you create a new item!
Removing default values
If you would like to remove a default value that has been set on your board, tap the Default Values selector button again. From here, select “Clear All Values” and then tap the blue “Save Changes” button to finish removing all default values.
Use cases
While there are many options with a default item value, one case where it can be very useful is when you want to automatically connect each new item on your board to another board in your account.
Let’s think about how this could be done in the “Property Listings” panel below. In this case, we want to automatically connect each new property listing to a real estate agent in our “Real Estate Agent List” panel. We already have a panel connection column that connects the two panels, so let’s see how we can use the item’s default value to automate this connection!
To automatically connect a new property listing to a specific real estate agent, we clicked on the Default Item Value button and chose to connect the agent Tanika to every new item created.
With this in place, each new item will automatically connect to the Agents and Tanks list page in a specific way, so we can easily gather all the information we need in one place!
