Looking for a way to get automatic notifications about upcoming or overdue tasks on your monday.com calendar? With monday.com automations, you can create a reminder about a due date by scheduling an automation based on a date column or schedule (whether it’s set to due date mode or not).
There are a few ways to set up your date reminders: (1) from your Automation Center or (2) directly from your date column or schedule menu. This article covers both methods.
Notifications from the Automation Center
You can find a wide variety of automated recipes under the “Date Dates” tab in the Automation Center.

The above-mentioned time can be set to:
- To be carried out exactly when the date arrives.
- Schedule automation to run at relative times.
- When a date has passed. This means the automation will run at midnight after the date has passed. This recipe does not work retroactively.
Notifications with custom automations
You can also create reminders with custom automations! This will be especially useful if you are using a schedule column and want to set a reminder or alert for the schedule start date . This is only possible with custom automations.

Notifications from your column menu
You can also add a reminder directly from your date or schedule column! You will be presented with two different options depending on whether your date column is set to a due date.
- A date column is not defined as a last date:
To set reminders, simply click the drop-down arrow to open the column menu settings and select “Add/Edit Date Reminders”.

You will navigate to the next automation “When the date arrives, notify someone.” The designated column will be filled in automatically – you will only need to select when you want the alert to occur and who you want to notify.

- The date column is set to target date mode:
If you’ve already linked your date or schedule column with the status column in due date mode, you’ll experience a slightly different ranking experience. As mentioned, open your column menu. Instead, you’ll see the option to “Set Due Date Reminders .”

When you click, you will be taken to the recipe: “When the date arrives and the status is not, notify someone.” Again, the column you selected will be pre-populated, as will the status column it is linked to. You will need to define the When field, as well as who you want to update.

How to set up the “Notify” field
The message column can be customized to your team’s needs. Click on your columns in the “Supported Fields” box to add a dynamic element to your automated notifications.

Column support for the “Notify” field
Certain column types are not currently supported in the automation “Notify” field
- formula
- Automatic number
- progress
- dependence
- Link to item
So let’s dive into an example.
Examples
- Every day, if {due date} has passed and only if {status} is {something}, {notify} {someone}
Use case: Sales team needs to send follow-up emails to customers “x” days after a call. If the customer’s email status is not marked as “Same Age”, then a reminder will be sent to the sales leader until the status is updated.

We will use the following automation recipe:

- When {birthday date} arrives, {notify} {someone} and push {birthday date} by {12 months}
Use Case: The employee experience team needs to track all employees’ birthdays so they can send a message and a treat on their special day. To streamline this process, they need to set up recurring birthday reminders.
The date column for each item will be set to the nearest birthday date, either this year if the birthday is later in the month, or next year if the birthday has already passed.

We will use the following automation recipe:

Now the automation will be ready to go into operation again next year on the same date.
Similarly, other recurring reminders can be set by selecting the date column to push a specific number of days or business days.
