Please note: If your Jira Data Center has not been previously set up with AuthApp, you must be a Jira admin with global permissions on the account for this integration to work. Once setup is complete, everyone can use it.

To connect to the Jira Data Center for the first time, you (the Jira administrator) will need to complete two steps:

1. Create a new Jira instance – you as the administrator need to log in to the general account

2. Connect to the Jira user – Only after creating a new instance can each user connect to their user profile for that general account

If the Jira administrator has already connected the instance, individual users can log in to their user profile.

Create a new Jira instance

To create a new Jira instance, click Administration and then go to Application links in the left panel. Click Create link:Group 64 - 2024-09-15T125844.801.png

Then, select External application as the application type, and Incoming as the direction:

You can then complete the rest of the template as needed.

Create two-way synchronization

Two-way sync occurs when data is transferred from both Monday.com to Jira and from Jira to Monday.com. This allows your data to be consistent across both platforms and stay up to date.

To create a two-way sync for new creations, click Sync and select the direction you want to use for new creations.

  • Time spent
    • If you use “Time Spent”, the related data will only be synced to monday.com after the task is marked as complete in Jira.
  • Custom entities

All Jira custom fields can be mapped to a status column on monday.com, as long as the custom field type is supported.

The following fields are supported for the monday.com to Jira integration mapping:

Jira Data Center Integration with monday.com: Complete Guide
From monday.com to Jira
  • date
  • Date and time
  • Drop-down menu
  • Email
  • Link
  • priority
  • person
  • Radio button
  • necklace
  • number
  • Designates
    • The people column on Monday.com is not supported. You can use a text or email column instead.

  • status
    • Because Jira allows you to build a workflow that moves between different statuses, not every change in Monday.com will change the status of the issue in Jira. The changes that can affect the status in Jira are the changes that apply to the workflow in Jira. If you change the status in Monday.com to a label that Jira cannot interpret, you will receive a message that the change did not affect your issue in Jira.

Once you have filled in all the options in the template, it is ready to use.Screenshot 2024-09-10 at 15.36.36 1.png

How to delete the integration

Important to know

  • The user overseeing the integration needs to make sure to map the item name to the summary field. If not, the integration will fail when you try to run it.
  • The Jira Data Center app does not offer the option to select ” Any ” as an issue/project option. You must select a specific issue/project to sync it.
  • Team-managed projects (formerly called “next-generation projects”) are supported by integration.
