To keep your information safe and secure, we offer several different types of permissions—account permissions, board types, board permissions, column permissions, and dashboard login. Dashboard permissions or restrictions are designed to give the dashboard owner control over what can be changed at the dashboard level.
Dashboard Types
Unlike boards, there are only two types of dashboards; primary and private. There are no dashboards that can be shared because all dashboards can be shared by following the steps in the next section of this article.
Main Dashboards – can be viewed and used by all team members on your account.
Private Dashboards – Only visible to dashboard subscribers. Learn how to invite team members in the next section of this article.
Change dashboard type
When you create a new dashboard, it is automatically created as a primary dashboard, but you can easily make it private by clicking the three-dot menu in the top right corner of your dashboard and selecting “Change type to private,” like here:

It can be returned to primary at any time, by following the same steps, this time choosing “Change type to primary”.
Members and owners on dashboards
- Dashboard members
Dashboard members are people who can view and use the dashboard. On a master dashboard, anyone in the account can view data and make themselves a member. On private dashboards, members must be requested by the dashboard owner using the following steps.
Click “Share” in the top right corner of your dashboard, then click “Dashboard Members”:

A pop-up window will appear with a list of members, click on the search bar and start typing the name or email address of the team member you want to add to your dashboard. You can remove a member from your dashboard by clicking on the ‘x’ next to their name, like this:

- Dashboard owners
By default, the person who created the board is automatically the dashboard owner. Dashboard owners will see a blue crown next to their name in the dashboard subscribers list. To add more dashboard owners, click the gray crown icon next to the subscriber’s name to turn it blue, making them an owner!

Inviting guests to your dashboards
You can invite anyone to view your dashboards by clicking “Share” and then selecting “Invite to dashboard,” like this:

Copy the generated link and send it to whoever you want, or simply type the guest’s email address in the field below and click “Send” to send them an invitation to the dashboard via email.
Who can change the dashboards?
Only dashboard owners can edit the dashboard itself and the apps and widgets within the dashboard. Some of the actions that only dashboard owners can perform include:
- Switch to “edit” mode
- Moving and resizing widgets
- Adding new widgets
- Deleting widgets
- Add or delete connected boards
- Subscribe or unsubscribe from team members or guests
- Change dashboard type
- Rename or delete the dashboard

Some of the actions that any dashboard subscriber, or team member viewing a main dashboard, can perform include:
- Viewing a list of dashboard guests, owners, and customers
- Switch to dark or light mode
- Watching in TV/Presentation mode
- Dashboard duplication
- Add the dashboard to your favorites
- Filter widgets
- Viewing connected boards
- View widgets in full screen
- Scroll on widgets (this can have a different meaning for each widget)
Access request
Private dashboards cannot be viewed by account members or guests who are not subscribed to the dashboard or one or more of the connected boards. If you encounter a dashboard that you cannot access, you will see a message that looks like this:

If you want to access the dashboard, you can request access from the dashboard owner! Simply click “Request Permissions” at the bottom of the message to send a message to the owner.
The dashboard owner will receive an email that looks like this:

To grant access, the dashboard owner can click the “Open Dashboard Sharing” button to enroll the team member!
If the team member or guest is not subscribed to one or more of the connected boards, the dashboard owner will see the message below, allowing them to easily grant the requester access to those boards with the click of a button!
Once access is granted, the requester will receive an email that looks like the image below. They can click the “View on monday.com” button to get a quick link directly to the dashboard.
