File Annotations on monday.com: How to add comments to files
Here at monday.com , we put a big emphasis on collaboration and communication, but why should it end up on your board? Take your teamwork a step further with file comments ! Collaborate with your team directly within your files and photos, so everyone is up to date from start to finish.
Create a note
To find the comments feature, you must first add images to a files column in your board. After you have clicked on a preview of one of the files from the files column, you can add a comment by clicking on the “Comment” button at the bottom of the screen like this:

Once you click this button, you’ll see the annotation editor appear on your screen. Simply select any part of your image and the editor will jump there so you can type your update. Once you’ve written your update, click the blue “Update” button to add it to your photo and you’re all set!

View your comments
Once you’ve added a comment to your photo, you’ll see a small blue circle with a number on it, indicating that there’s a comment there. The circles are numbered in the order in which the comments were added. When you hover over a blue circle within your photo, you’ll see a preview of that comment:

By clicking on one of the blue comment circles, you can easily see all the updates in one thread in the order they were posted! You can also get here by clicking the “Updates” button here on the right side of your screen:

From the same area, you can also comment or like any comment, and edit/delete an update you’ve posted.
Tag your team
You’ll likely want to have a conversation with another team member about different aspects of the image when you comment on an image. To make communication between your team easier, you can “@” any of your team members (or an entire team of users!) and they’ll be notified and taken directly to your comment.

Solve a note
Have you or your team members completed a suggestion or feedback given on one of your files? To mark a comment as resolved, simply open the given comment and click the “Resolve” button like so!

Once the comment is marked as resolved, the numbered comment will appear in green to indicate that there is no further work to be done on the response.

Edit or delete an update

Comment on a video
Now you can add comments directly on a video you’ve added to the Files column! The process of reviewing and discussing a video has never been easier.
To create a video comment, click on an uploaded video file in your files column. At any point in the video, you can click the “Comment” button at the bottom of your screen to leave a comment. Drag the cursor to the desired location, click, and type your update!

With each comment added, you’ll see a small icon of the person who added it, at its specific time, below the video. Clicking on one of these icons will allow you to see all the comments as a cluster on the right side of your screen!
When you’re viewing comments in a thread, you can also click on any timestamp to take you to that specific message.

Using comments
The ways you can use the photo annotation feature are endless, especially when it comes to teams involved in creative or design processes! To see how this feature can be used in real life, let’s take a look at our “Creative Team Planning” board where we manage our creative projects at a high level, collaborating with our team and keeping everyone aligned at all times.
In this board, we use a files column to add any documents/images related to the project at hand:

An important part of our creative process is that the admin (shown in the second People column on our board) will review each image and add comments, so that the person in charge can go back and edit them.
To achieve this, once each project is ready for review, the administrator will simply click on the relevant image in the files column, review the image, and add their comments.

Thanks to the photo annotation feature, the review and editing process has become much simpler!
Your feedback is important!
As always, we love to hear what you think about the new features we’re launching! If you’d like to provide us with feedback about your experience with the new file comments feature, you can do so by selecting “Leave Feedback” like this:
