Innovation strategy is about creating unique value for consumers by providing an excellent product that meets their needs. This course introduces the basic concepts and tools with which companies can manage technological innovation to achieve competitive advantage. It begins by examining the sources of technological change and how to exploit technologies to create value for the company. The course then delves into the various mechanisms for extracting value from technologies, both legal (such as patents, trade secrets, etc.) and strategic (such as lead times, complementary assets, etc.). We will explore the fundamentals of technology strategy through reading and studying cases from established and entrepreneurial technology companies.
