Optical instruments

Optical devices are the way we see the world, from glasses for vision correction to medical endoscopes, mobile phone cameras, and telescopes orbiting the Earth.

What you will learn in the course
  • Designing optical systems using simple graphic techniques.
  • Transforming designs on paper to include real optical components such as:
    • Lenses
    • Interference networks
    • Prisms
  • Entering the designs into an industry standard design tool, Zemax’s OpticStudio.
  • Analyze and improve performance with powerful automated optimization methods.

Hands-on Learning Project

In each course in this training, you will design increasingly complex optical systems, like those you will find in the real world.

  • Using basic mathematical tools.
  • The application of OpticStudio software, developed by Zemax, for the final design.
