Chapter 3: Getting to know the user interface
You sit in front of your computer, open a new app, and all you see is a screen full of buttons, text, and graphics that you don’t necessarily understand what they do. The excitement of starting something new is also a bit confusing, isn’t it? That’s exactly why we’re here! Today we’ll talk about getting to know the user interface (UI) of an app or website, and we’ll make sure everything is clear and simple. We’ll try to add screenshots that will make you understand what’s going on here.
What is a user interface?
So what exactly is a user interface? It is the part of an app or website where we, the users, interact with in order to use the services the platform offers. The interface includes buttons, menus, forms, and graphics that give us the tools to do what we need to do. Every little detail in the interface is designed to make us feel comfortable and have the best user experience.
User interface example
To illustrate the issue, a screenshot of an interface was used (this is where a screenshot of an app interface would come in).

In the screenshot we see several elements: navigation buttons on the side, fillable forms in the middle, and menus at the top. Each of these elements has an important role. The buttons allow us to perform actions (close, open, save, etc.), the forms allow us to enter data, and the menus offer us additional options.
Buttons and menus
Now let’s start talking in depth about buttons and menus. Buttons are like signs – they show us what we can do and what happens when we click them.
The buttons: Open the gate!
Buttons generally need to be clear and attention-grabbing. This is what explains the name “linkage.” The button should be easy to press and should convey the action that will occur when it is pressed. For example, a “Save” button could have clear text + a small diskette symbol that has always symbolized saving.
Sample screenshot

The buttons here are brightly colored and their text is clear. After all, no one wants to fight to save their file.
Menus: The Way to Choose
Menus, on the other hand, are our way of finding more options. Do you remember the first time you walked into a new place and didn’t know where to go? Menus make it so much easier!
Sample screenshot

In this shot, we reach the familiar menus – categories, settings, help, etc. There is a clear overview of what the interface offers, with each option allowing us to enter its own world.
[note_box] Tip: When designing buttons, pay attention to size and color. A button that is too small or in a color that doesn’t stand out may miss the user’s attention. [/note_box]
Forms: When the user is prompted to answer
Forms are a place that includes everything important for us to enter about ourselves. Whether it’s a registration form or a feedback form, these need to be clear, accessible, and informative!
Sample screenshot

A typical form looks like this with sorted fields telling us what to put in. It’s important that it guides us. There are required fields (usually with an asterisk) that need to be filled in, and optional fields that don’t need to be filled in.
[fact_box] Interesting use of user interface: There are applications that allow users to design their own interface, so that everyone can adapt the experience to their personal needs. [/fact_box]
Interface design
Now that we understand what we’re talking about, let’s talk about how each of these interfaces is designed. Interface design is an art form! It includes the colors, fonts, and overall style that should be displayed. The goal is for the interface to be not only useful, but also pleasing to the eye.
Colors
When it comes to colors, it’s important to choose colors that represent the brand and create positive feelings. For example, green can represent calm, and red can convey a sense of urgency.
Fonts
And while it may sound insignificant, the font you choose will affect the user experience. Readable and beautiful fonts help provide a pleasant experience for the user.
[note_box] Tip: When choosing fonts, make sure they are readable at any screen size. Fonts that are too thin can be difficult to read on mobile phones. [/note_box]
What should you remember?
- Simplicity : Keep your interface simple and easy to use.
- Clear and consistent : All buttons and menus should be clear and operate in the same way throughout the process.
- User Guide : Always think about the user – they are not spoiled! The interface should be thoughtful, explanatory and, above all, “friendly”.
summary
So, the user interface is the most important part when it comes to apps and websites. It’s where we spend a lot of our time on our computers and smartphones, so it’s important to design it so that it’s pleasing to the eye and helps us do our work. By having parts like buttons, forms, and menus that are precise and clear, we can create better experiences for our users.
And now that you know a little more about UI, go and use your new knowledge! It’s your time to create a great interface!
