Internship – a five-part course series

The courses

  • “Rediscovering the Heart of Methodism” includes five courses.
  • Each course is designed for clergy, including local rabbis in ordination schools.
  • The goal: to develop basic capabilities for innovative leadership within the Wesleyan tradition.

Objectives of the series

  • Explore various aspects of Methodist theology and history.
  • To assist in the development of your personal spiritual practice.

Course content

  • Interactive video lessons from lecturers at the Duke House of Divinity.
  • Highlighting diverse expert voices.
  • Drawing lessons from the riches of Wesleyan history and tradition.

Course format

  • All courses can be taken as a group within your spiritual community or individually.

Christian Formation Emphasis

Course 3 • 5 hours

Course Details
What you’ll learn
  • Welcome to the course on the importance of Christian formation. This course explores how Methodism’s deep attention to Christian formation can develop both gifts and character in our communities.
  • We will see how Methodist training depends on the sacred doctrine of Methodism.
  • We will consider how innovation in the tangential practices of sermonizing and fellowship was directed toward holiness and drove the development of Methodism in 18th-century England.
  • We will also examine how education contributes to our growth as disciples of Jesus.
  • We will learn to draw on these studies to rethink the practices of our own communities.
  • Finally, we will discover that the Methodist path to Christian training finds its fullest expression in prayer.
