A specialization in global health aims to provide students with an overview of the main health challenges and lines of epidemiological research being conducted, in a variety of infectious and non-infectious diseases.
The specialization begins by examining the global distribution of diseases and the key trends we have observed in recent decades. At the same time, we delve into the data used to build these predictions.
We then examine the role of social and risk factors in influencing the distribution of diseases in populations. For each disease, the overall etiology and patterns of epidemiology are described, and then the interventions available to address the problems are examined.
Unique policy issues related to each disease are examined from multiple perspectives. Each session includes lecture content from leaders in the field, hands-on activities, and in-depth interviews with experts in the field.
The specialization will provide students with a broad understanding of key global health issues and a deep understanding of the most important disease challenges facing us today. It will equip public health professionals and researchers with a broad knowledge base on which to build further expertise in the field of global public health.
