In this specialization, you will learn how to provide care to stable and unstable patients before they arrive at the hospital, how to identify illnesses that require urgent care, and medical and traumatic conditions that affect both adults and children.

Courses:

  • Course 1: Situational assessment and preparation for providing care, understanding the framework for assessing patients, the history of emergency medical services, and the personal requirements of being a paramedic.
  • Course 2: The airway, blood flow, medical materials and supplies that paramedics are allowed to administer, and identifying a patient suffering from a stroke or diabetic emergency.
  • Course 3: Skills related to advanced CPR, toxicity, and wilderness medicine.

In each course, learners will face a number of medical situations that will challenge them to apply the concepts and skills they have learned. In the capstone projects, learners will apply and summarize everything they have learned in courses 1 through 5 across three medical situations similar to what they will experience on the national licensing exam.
