The internship is especially beneficial for anyone working in the healthcare industry who has:

  • A developing interest in issues important to the management of the organization’s operations;
  • Some expertise but interested in a general picture or refinement of the topics.

People who do not work in the healthcare industry but interact with healthcare organizations as consumers/patients will also find the internship beneficial.

During the four courses in the specialization, you will cover many aspects of healthcare organization operations including:

  • The relationship between health organizations and the health system;
  • Health care delivery;
  • Business process management;
  • Quality improvement within healthcare organizations.

After completing the internship, individuals who interact with healthcare organizations as consumers/patients will better understand the issues related to effective management of healthcare organizations and their operations.

Those working in the healthcare industry, after completing the internship, will be better able to contribute to the effective management of the organization’s operations.

Applied Learning Project

The culminating project of each course requires learners to critically synthesize course materials to create a health organization and communicate/present aspects of the organization’s operations to their classmates.

Each project is presented to fellow students through the peer review feature, and each student reviews the project of two fellow students. The peer review feature was chosen because each project is presented from the perspective of the organization’s CEO.

One of the skills required of all CEOs is the ability to present their thoughts and conclusions to others and expect evaluation and feedback. Another skill required of all CEOs is the ability to critically evaluate the presentation, thoughts, and conclusions of others.

The communication/presentation format is different in each course and reflects communication/presentation strategies that are important to CEOs of healthcare organizations.
