Internship – a three-part course series

This specialization aims to expose students to holistic thinking about ‘health systems’ and the importance of a horizontal approach to investing in the health system, in order to achieve better health outcomes. The specialization also aims to provide understanding in a variety of areas, including organizational behavior, health policy, information systems, and human resources, with the aim of strengthening students’ abilities to think as effective health leaders.

Applied Learning Project

By the end of this internship, students should be able to:

Identify the key components of a well-functioning health system and make recommendations for context-appropriate interventions for health system reform;
Critically compare different health systems models to identify opportunities and challenges for health systems around the world;
Assess the health impacts of policies, programs, and projects to advise decision makers on disease prevention and health promotion;
Apply a root cause analysis approach to diagnose specific bottlenecks in service delivery;
Review strategies to alleviate human resource challenges in global health to support evidence-based decision-making for health system reform;
To formulate recommendations for health system reform in order to develop interventions tailored to the needs of the population.
