Specializations – 3-part course series

This specialization is designed to introduce and integrate the key concepts of global health, globalization, and governance into an understanding of key challenges and threats to global health. The goal is to provide learners with opportunities to understand the complex international context of global health, the role of key stakeholders, and the need for good governance in global health.

Learners will be exposed to some of the most important challenges in global health and their implications for global health practices. They will discuss the forces driving these challenges, including global change and globalization, and address issues of injustice related to the impact of these challenges.

The “Climate Change and Health” course was developed in collaboration with the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment.

Hands-on Learning Project

  • Globalization and health governmentality: A literature review on the Global Health Challenge (GHC) of their choice.
  • Migration and Health: Creating an infographic on a global health challenge to communicate with the public and stakeholders.
  • Climate Change and Health: Writing a policy paper on a global health challenge to communicate research or recommendations to decision makers.

At the end of the Climate Change and Health course, students will submit a final project, which unites the three previous projects into a cohesive whole, in which students critically analyze the health challenge from different angles.
