Transferring a domain to Shopify

If you want to manage your domain directly from within the Shopify platform, you can transfer your domain from a third-party provider and have all of your management done through the service. This allows you to centrally manage all aspects of your domain, including DNS settings, auto-renewal, and privacy protection. To begin the transfer process, there are a few simple steps you need to follow:

Preparing for the domain transfer process

• Make sure you have had the domain for at least 60 days.
• Release any locks on the domain with your current service provider.
• Obtain an authorization code.
• Make sure your domain registration details are up to date and correct.

Steps to transfer a domain to Shopify

1. Log in to your Shopify dashboard.
2. Select Domains from the menu.
3. Select “Transfer Domain”.
4. Enter the domain name you want to transfer and then click “Next”.
5. Enter the authorization code you received from the previous provider.
6. Follow any additional instructions to complete the process.

Cost and treatment time

Typically, the process of transferring your domain to Shopify can take up to 20 days. There may be an additional renewal fee for the first year of your domain on Shopify. It’s important to note that when transferring a domain, all of your old settings may be lost and you’ll need to reconfigure any desired settings.
