Connecting existing domains to Shopify
To take advantage of the Shopify platform for an online store, you can connect an existing domain to your Shopify account. This allows you to use the domain name you already own for your online store.
To connect an existing domain
- Log in to your Shopify account.
- In the administration menu, click ‘Online Store’ and then ‘Domains’.
- Select the ‘Join an existing domain’ option.
- Enter your existing domain name and click ‘Next’.
- Follow the instructions to complete the connection by updating the DNS with your existing domain provider.
Update DNS settings
To connect your domain to Shopify, you may need to update your DNS settings with the provider where you purchased your domain. The A record should point to Shopify’s IP address, which is 23.227.38.65, and the CNAME record should point to shop.myshopify.com.
Verifying the connection
After updating your DNS settings, it may take some time for the updates to take effect. Check the connection status in the Shopify domains screen. If the connection is successful, the domain will appear under Domain Connection Policies.
