Start collecting leads to increase your chances of converting some of them into paying customers. The connections you collect give you a great opportunity to share promotions, news, or other relevant content you want to share with your visitors.

Collect data via a pre-chat survey

A pre-chat survey is a short survey that visitors fill out before they start a chat. In the survey, you can collect visitors’ names, addresses, phone numbers, GDPR consent, ask for newsletter opt-in, and let them choose a department (if your project has this option). You can request all of this information or choose what data your business might need.

If the survey is enabled, the pre-chat survey will be displayed to visitors when they attempt to send their first chat message, and must be completed before proceeding. The information collected is saved so you can see it when you chat later; the data will also appear in the Contacts category of your Tidio project.

The survey settings are located just below the Mobile Widget category in Settings.> Live chat> Appearance :

Run the survey by turning on the Show switch. Now, add the fields that request the information you need. You can select additional fields using the drop-down menu and click Add .

The email address field also gives the visitor the option to give their consent to receive newsletters from you – you just need to check the box with Ask your visitor if they agree to receive newsletters to enable this.

If you need to change or translate the Newsletter Signup text, you can do so in the multilingual category located immediately below the pre-chat survey. You will need to click the Manage and Edit Translations button to access the text editor.

Select the tab with your language and find the text you want to edit. You can use CTRL+F in your browser and type the phrase you need to find. Then, enter the text you selected in the text field to translate it.

[note_box] Tip: When setting up your pre-chat survey, try to keep the questions short and clear. For example, instead of “What is your email address?” you could simply ask “Email?” This can make it easier for visitors to fill out the survey quickly. [/note_box]

Collect leads through flows

Another great channel in Tidio for lead collection is Flows . Flows have many advantages: they run independently in the background, access visitors exactly when you want them, and ask visitors any data you want – all while saving you valuable time!

You can build a flow that asks visitors to subscribe to your newsletter and asks them for their email address. How to do this?

In the My Flows list in your Flows category, locate the Create from scratch button in the top right corner and select a trigger of your choice.

Add the action called Ask a Question . You can write the question to the visitor asking for their email address at this point.

Remember to select Email Verification so that the email address is saved in your contact list. The next important point to add will be a mailing list subscription , which will automatically mark your new contact as a subscriber.

The flow can end with a Send Message point where you can thank your new subscriber for sharing their contact information with you. Of course, you can always add more points, for example, more questions asking for different types of details or more messages.

This way, the flows can collect a variety of information for you while saving you time.

Collecting leads through chat conversations

If you are already in a conversation with your visitor, you can ask for their email address and permission to send emails during the chat.

If they provide you with their contact information, you can add them to the conversation window. Use the options available on your right. This is where you can also mark the contact as a subscriber.
